the kind that you have to do... otherwise they'll haunt you forever?
we found one of those this last week.
it all started on our honeymoon.
a fun little jaunt to vancouver, canada... (and it was!)
we made a little discovery on the way too. one thing that taylor wanted to try was poutine. never heard of it? me neither. not before this particular trip. poutine is... in the words of a real canadian: "the best carb source available." it's for hockey players when they need to fill up on carbs after a game.
so what is it?
french fries.
gravy.
cheese curds?
if you are anything like my husband... this will almost send you into hysterics at the thought.
"too much goodness for one meal."
...or something like that.
the first time we had poutine...!
and the third time...
...and the ?? time.
so now we are home... a far cry from canada and from the poutine that he (and i guess we) love so much. (i don't love the amount of weight that it makes me gain.) and the only thing left, is to try and make it ourselves.
and make it we did!
of course it has to have a filter...
we also bought a fry cutter at bed, bath and beyond (to use some of the wedding money we got). i thought it would be a pretty cheap one... but it cut 8 potatoes in nothing flat! i think i spent more time peeling them than slicing them.
it will make your life happier. i promiseeee.
some things we learned:
double fry-ing your fries! a must.
soaking your fries for 1-3 hours before. i don't really know WHAT that does... but apparently it helps take the starch out of the potatoes???
conclusion? oh mannnn! we ate most of the fries before we even started dinner. oops?
our fry recipe: from the food network
now... the rest of the poutine is up to you.
you can choose to be adventurous...
or you can stick to the basics.
whichever one you choose... i can guarantee that you will be greatly rewarded.
